It's book week - literary festival here in the week starting from today. It always makes me a little exciting... even as a little girl I had a huge thirst for books. The library was across the road so whenever it was open I would be inside looking for new books to read.
As soon as I had worked through all the kid's books I wanted to continue in the adult's section but actually wasn't 'ready' for it. And I was so happy when we moved to another part of the country: I thought there would be new books available for me lol.
Little did I know... in the village we moved to there wasn't a real library; instead the 'bibliobus' (library bus) would stop every Wednesday afternoon in the centre of the village. Of course this bus didn't have enough books for my taste but the lady in the bus was prepared to make reservations for the books I wished to read and would have them ready in the next week. Fortunately my mum was soon prepared to drive me to the next town where they had a big library :)
These days I'm reading loads of books for my studies and that literary part of my studies actually makes me very happy, but I can't wait for the summer break to have a bit more free time and read whatever I feel like. I love to read about foreign cultures and countries. It's like travelling from your armchair.

Can't imagine life without them, Cessie.
ReplyDeleteMy childhood reading habits were much the same as yours. I grieved on Tuesdays, when the library was shut, and, like you, read lots of adult books long before I could understand them properly. I am systematically re-reading the classics in my old age.
ReplyDeleteBooks. Yeah, I've heard of them.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I'd do without books. ☺
ReplyDeleteThe bookmobile used to come to the school in our small (250 pop)town once a week, and the kids were allowed on the bus five at a time, two book limit. I lived for that day, and slowly I came to understand the infinity of books, something that has never left me. I will never live long enough to read all of them, which is strangely comforting.
ReplyDeleteOoh I cannot live without my books either.
ReplyDeleteLove books and read most of the library in my youth! My children want me to use an e-reader however I am not techie enough and love the feel of books. A visit tp a library is a great walk!
ReplyDeleteCessie... I have spent endless hours in a library and honestly cannot imagine life without one...but if you have a kindle they have a 'virtual library' .... you should check it out.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week
I love books - I can't imagine life without them. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Cessie ~~ Your nice post brings back memories. I still love books too but my reading habits are atrocious. I always have several checked out from our really good county library but then I never get hardly a whole book read.
ReplyDeleteMost of the information I need comes from Googling. With the several On-line encylopideas and Wikipedia it is a wonderful world of information sitting on our tables.
..
Books are a wonderful way to enter other worlds. I didn't know that about bibliobuses. I'm glad you were able to reserve books at least and your mom was willing to drive you to the library! It's so important to share the love of reading with others and nurture that desire too.
ReplyDeleteI agree that books can really expand horizons!
ReplyDeleteI love books and I love libraries so very much.We have a great big library in town but in our village we are so lucky to have the friendliest library ever.We are on first name terms with the librarians and there is nothing they would do for us.Its like coming home when I go to a library.I loved hearing about your 'bibliobus' my Chippie would live that,he loves buses and he loves books....win win for him :-) x
